Frankincense is a resin obtained from trees of the genus Boswellia, particularly Boswellia sacra, which is native to the Arabian Peninsula and northeastern Africa. Frankincense has been used for thousands of years in religious ceremonies, traditional medicine, and cultural practices across various civilizations, including ancient Egypt, Greece, and Rome. It is primarily known for its use as incense in religious and spiritual rituals, as well as for its pleasant aroma when burned. Frankincense is harvested by making small incisions in the bark of the Boswellia tree, which causes the resin to ooze out. The resin hardens into small, tear-shaped droplets known as tears or pearls, which are then collected for processing.  Common types include Boswellia sacra (from Oman and Yemen), Boswellia serrata (Indian frankincense), and others. Frankincense has been used in traditional medicine for its anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, and analgesic properties. It has been used to treat respiratory issues, arthritis, and skin conditions. Frankincense oil is used in skincare products for its potential anti-aging and skin-rejuvenating properties.
